The brand symbolizes Barcelona itself, as Carpyen themselves describe it: "We are from Barcelona, a city of light; We were born here and we grew up here. We continue to manufacture all our products on-site, we are inspired by a lively, original, and cosmopolitan city, with a Mediterranean blue horizon, thousands of spaces to discover and thousands of stories to tell. We are proud to show the world that Carpyen "MADE IN BARCELONA" has a strong image and inexhaustible creative resources." Above all, it’s a human adventure. That is the beautiful and proud motto of the women and men at Carpyen. A whole world of light to endlessly create and recreate in Carpyen’s workshops with the finest designers."
Carpyen was officialy founded in 1954 by Antonio Carpintero and Encarnación Celdrán in Barcelona, Spain. As the name suggests, the brand's name was taken from the names of the two initial founders, Carpintero and Encarnación: Carp y (and) En.
Roberto Carpintero joined the company in 1972, accompanied by the contemporary industrial designers Pascual Salvador and Gabriel Teixido. Their initial creation, the Galilea, set the tone for Carpyen's future design philosophy: sleek, industrial-style lighting that was both practical and inviting, with a focus on simplicity and ease of use.
Alongside the company's very own Pascual Salvador and Gabriel Teixido Sabater, Carpyen has worked with many world-renowned designers on their product collections.
Some of these include Nathrang Studio (creators of the Boop! and Mei collections), Jordi Veciana (designer of alabast), the creator of Neil collection Xavier Solé among many other great minds.
