Obwohl Parachilna seinen Sitz in Barcelona hat, reichen seine Ursprünge tatsächlich bis zu seinem Namensgeber, einer Geisterstadt in der Wüste in Australien. Ein zufälliger Zwischenstopp dort vor Jahren inspirierte Alfredo Valero und Roman Riera schließlich dazu, ein Luxusbeleuchtungsunternehmen zu gründen, das sich der dauerhaften Handwerkskunst verschrieben hat und von europäischen Metallschmieden, Glasbläsern, Keramikern und anderen erfahrenen Handwerkern unterstützt wird.
Partner Alfredo, der mit so namhaften modernen Designern wie Jaime Hayon und Neri & Hu zusammenarbeitet, erklärt den zielgerichteten Prozess von Parachilna. „Wir verwenden keine industriellen Techniken“, sagt er. „Alles dreht sich um Handwerkskunst, das heißt, es gibt viel Arbeit, vom Prototyping bis zur Endbearbeitung. Wenn wir sagen: ‚Es gefällt uns nicht‘, fangen wir von vorne an.“ Von den maßgeschneiderten Designs der Marke, bei denen hochwertige Materialien zum Einsatz kommen, bis hin zur fertigen Innen- und Außenbeleuchtung bleibt Parachilna seiner Vision künstlerischer Integrität durch Lichtdesign treu.

In Australien braucht man vier Dinge, um als Stadt zu gelten: eine Telefonzelle, einen Briefkasten, einen Geldautomaten (früher war es eine Bankfiliale) und eine Kneipe. Parachilna ist eine der letzten Städte vor der Einmündung in die australische Wüste nördlich von Adelaide.
